H&T was established in 1897 by Charles James Thompson and Walter Harvey who opened their first store on Vauxhall Bridge Road

In 1992 H&T was acquired by Cash America Inc, the second largest pawnbroking chain in the US. The increased investment allowed the company to grow from 26 stores
to 57.

In September 2004 John Nichols led the buyout of H&T with equity backing from Rutland Partners LLP.

The company has recruited a new Finance Director and Commercial Director and opened 11 additional stores.

H&T Group completed its admission to AIM.

The company has over 120 stores nationwide.
